Seniors Must Know the Full Story of ObamaCare

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after President Obama tried to convince senior citizens to support his new health care law during a nationally televised town hall meeting.

“Democrats are once again attempting to gloss over the cold, hard reality behind their government takeover of health care,” said Congressman Price. “Senior citizens need to hear the full story and not the same, old, tired rhetoric. For example, only a fraction of seniors will actually receive the $250 check the Obama administration made the cornerstone of its sales pitch in today’s town hall. And this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the failed policies and broken promises of ObamaCare. Contrary to the recent propaganda piece issued by CMS, the health care law is a recipe for fewer choices, more dictates from Washington, and higher costs for less access to quality care.

“ObamaCare will make many insurers and companies drop coverage, particularly for retirees. It empowers government panels – those more concerned about saving money than saving people – to blacklist effective treatments based on cost. By cutting $132 billion from Medicare Advantage, this law will disrupt the benefits available to millions of seniors who rely on that program. The inadequate reimbursement rates and increase in government control will push physicians away from medicine, leaving Medicare patients unable to find a doctor. And no grandparent wants to see a grandchild’s opportunities destroyed by the unimaginable spending and debt ObamaCare will leave to future generations.

“Democrats have not reformed health care. They have exponentially increased Washington’s intrusion into personal health care decisions. The path to greater choice, better quality, and lower costs is clear. For the sake of every generation, ObamaCare must be repealed and replaced with true reform that puts patients in charge.”
