Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after House Democrats passed the America COMPETES Act. This was the third time the legislation was brought to the House Floor for consideration. When the bill was first considered at the beginning of May, Republicans successfully amended the bill with a proposal to remove costly new programs and freeze current funding levels until Congress established a balanced budget.

“House Democrats have outright ignored the will of the American people and their representatives in Congress,” said Congressman Price. “When this legislation was originally brought before Congress it was amended by a bipartisan majority vote and would have passed the House of Representatives with those responsible changes in place to protect American taxpayers. Unfortunately, the Democrat leadership felt its big government, liberal agenda would not be served by respecting a vote in the House. Under this style of failed leadership, Democrats are driving our nation into insurmountable levels of debt which will only weaken America’s competitiveness in the global economy. The majority should stop governing on behalf of Washington and instead join House Republicans in listening to the American people so that we can advance positive, responsible solutions to our nation’s challenges.”
