Administration’s Slow Response and Defensive Posture Raises Questions

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement regarding the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

“The environment and the livelihood of millions in the Gulf region depend on getting this oil spill cleaned up as quickly as possible. That is priority number one,” said Congressman Price. “Meanwhile, there must be a full investigation to learn exactly what went wrong and who should be held accountable. It would be utterly irresponsible to leave any questions unanswered about this disaster and Washington’s response. So far, the remarkably slow response by the Obama administration and their defensive posture raises questions about their handling of this matter. Such a response and attitude do not inspire confidence that similar disasters will be addressed more effectively in the future.

“This tragedy once again highlights the need for an energy policy that uses the full potential of American innovation, conservation, and production. This is a time to clean up the spill and get an accurate accounting of the situation, not for making short-sighted and reactionary decisions to limit access to our country’s energy resources. Taxpayers should not foot the bill for this disaster, and American families should not be hit with runaway energy bills because it was used to stymie future responsible and needed expansion of domestic energy.”
