Pork Spending Still Alive and Well
Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after speaking at the public release of the 2010 Congressional Pig Book by Citizens Against Government Waste. The Pig Book highlights wasteful and irresponsible earmark spending. Rep. Price is an outspoken advocate for earmark reform and has long abstained from the earmark process.
“Many politicians talk about being responsible stewards of the taxpayers’ money, but pork barrel spending sadly remains alive and well in Washington,” said Congressman Price. “Earmark abuse is one of many reasons the public has little confidence in Washington. With the litany of outrages in this year’s Pig Book, it is no wonder the American people are frustrated. House Republicans’ implemented an earmark moratorium earlier this year. That moratorium is an important step to excising waste and corruption from the federal appropriations process, but it is only a beginning. It’s past time for Congress to finally show some respect for the American taxpayer and enact meaningful earmark reforms.”
“Citizens Against Government Waste should be commended for their tireless pursuit of accountability in Washington. For 20 years, their Congressional Pig Book has shined a much needed light on the abuse of earmarks.”
