Price Lauds Republican Earmark Moratorium

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after it was announced that the entire House GOP Conference will not request earmarks. Price has long abstained from the earmarking process.

“Today the voices of the American people have delivered positive change to Washington,” said Congressman Price. “The flawed earmarking process in Congress has devolved into both a symptom and a source of Washington’s fiscal recklessness. It allows hard-earned tax dollars to flow to wasteful pet projects while feeding a culture of big spending. If Democrats are unwilling to fundamentally reform the earmarking process or refrain from requests along with us, responsibility and principle demand that we abstain from earmarks on our own.

“We must not participate in a system that uses taxpayer money as political currency and undermines American trust in Washington. With this moratorium, we are declaring that a new day is coming to Congress in which taxpayers will be respected and fiscal discipline will be restored. The American people are sick of seeing their paychecks go to pay for political pork; this message has been received loud and clear. It is a great occasion when the passion of the American people can influence Congress in such a meaningful way, and I am proud to be a part of this Republican moratorium on earmarking.”
