Price Statement on Republican Earmark Moratorium

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement in strong support of the proposed House Republican earmark moratorium. Chairman Price has long been a champion of earmark reform and has personally abstained from submitting earmarks.

“Public trust in Congress won’t return until Americans see their representatives take concrete action to earn it back,” said Congressman Price. “A full moratorium on earmarks is a first step which I have long supported, even if it means Republicans go it alone. Doing away with pork barrel projects demonstrates that we are serious about putting America’s fiscal house in order. While earmarks only account for a fraction of Washington’s irresponsible spending, they feed a culture of waste, a lack accountability, and, at times, facilitate corruption that exists in the federal budgeting process. This is a much-needed step on the road to repairing the system and ensuring responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.”
