CBO Report Shows Need for Bold Solutions

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement regarding the release of the January 2010 Budget and Economic Update by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

“It’s time to stop pretending America’s impending fiscal disaster will go away if we offer hollow lip service to the problem,” said Congressman Price. “In just one year with total control of the federal government, Democrats more than tripled the annual deficit from $408 billion to $1.4 trillion. This year, their recklessness will lead to another $1.35 trillion deficit. America cannot afford such irresponsible governance. Discretionary spending is not the only problem, however. If we hope to save programs like Medicare and Social Security for future generations, they cannot continue to operate under 1960s era assumptions. It will take serious leadership and conservative solutions to pull the country away from this fiscal cliff.

“The CBO’s message is clear. If we do not act now to cut spending and bring entitlement programs into the 21st Century, our children’s future is in serious doubt. Conservatives have the solutions and the resolve necessary to put our country back on the right path. We can only hope that Democrats will choose to join us.”
