Supreme Court Protects Freedom of Speech, Democratic Participation

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court decision in the case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission.

“This Supreme Court decision is a welcome victory for freedom of speech and democratic participation,” said Congressman Price. “Some may characterize today’s decision as a win for unions and corporations, but it’s really a win for the Constitution and all those who want their voices heard by their elected officials and the American public. We must continue to work toward more open and transparent elections, but we must not ignore the rights guaranteed since this nation’s inception. Our Constitutional freedoms are what make us unique, and freedom of speech is one of the most important. It’s no mistake that the Founders enshrined it as a prominent entry in the Bill of Rights. As they say, the best remedy to bad speech is more speech.”
