The Year of Bigger Government

An Angry Rebellion Is Under Way

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement on the one-year anniversary of President Obama’s inauguration.

“Today we are reminded that the President and the American people have two different ideas of change,” said Congressman Price. “While they were promised a brighter future, Americans now recognize the futility of runaway government solutions. All the administration has to show for its first year is a massive stimulus bill that has delivered historic unemployment levels and stifling deficits. The President’s most notable achievement has been to rejuvenate the American people’s craving for basic principles like limited government and low taxes that have made us the greatest nation in history. An angry rebellion against big government is under way, yet it seems the White House just doesn’t get it.

“While the first year of the Obama presidency has been a grand disappointment in substance and style, it is my hope that the White House will use it as a ‘teachable moment.’ To regain the trust of the American people, it is imperative that the President drop his plan for a government takeover of health care and focus on proven methods to create jobs. Conservatives have put forth pro-growth economic solutions since Day One, and they are needed now more than ever. If the President is willing to move beyond his attachment to bureaucracy and big government, we are ready and willing to work with him to put America back to work.”
