Union Members and Bureaucrats Should Pay the Same Taxes as the Rest of Us

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) released the following statement regarding the special exemption for union members and local and state public employees from the Democrats' tax on so-called “Cadillac” health insurance plans.

“Taxing Americans differently based solely on a 'special' affiliation goes against everything we stand for in this country,” said Chairman Price. “Apparently, Pelosi, Reid, and Obama think these folks are more deserving of a cheaper health care tab than the rest of us. Democrats are placing the interests of their narrow political base over the interests of every other American. That's not something the American people are likely to forget or forgive.

“This special treatment is absolutely outrageous, and it should end all pretense of this being real health care reform. Real reform wouldn't treat people better simply because they have a union card in their wallet. Union members and bureaucrats should pay the same taxes as the rest of us. End of discussion.”
