Price Blasts Closed-Door White House Bargaining on Health Care

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement as President Obama continued to meet with Congressional Democrats behind closed doors to reconcile the House and Senate health care bills.

"Washington Democrats are delivering a message that public trust can be sacrificed to achieve a government takeover of health care," said Congressman Price. "President Obama made open health care negotiations a hallmark of his campaign but has the gall to use the White House as the setting to shatter this promise. By blocking Republicans and the media out of these talks, Democrats are shutting the American people out of the process. What's most outrageous is that liberal special interest groups have been given a seat at the table while hard-working Americans are left abandoned on the outside.”

“That Democrats are intent on covering up these talks tells us this disastrous bill can only be getting worse. A little sunlight will help illuminate all that's wrong when Washington starts making medical decisions. But Democrats know their ugly deal-making couldn't stand up to the light of day. This is why Republicans and the American people are demanding the President make good on his promise of openness. We will continue to fight so that health care reform will serve the best interests of the country, not entrenched political allies.”
