What we love Reichert has introduced two amendments, passed by the House, aimed at improving school safety and preventing violence in our schools. The first provided funds to upgrade and install important school safety technology, so schools are prepared for emergencies like campus violence, natural disasters and acts of terrorism. The second provided $2.5 million for the Supporting Teens through Education and Protection (STEP) program to help schools fight sexual harassment, bullying or gang-related violence. He has supported more than $300 million in appropriations for Children’s Graduate Medical Education (CHGME), a program in which children’s hospitals train pediatricians to increase the number of qualified physicians in the workforce. The congressman also supported a $200 million funding increase for community health centers, which provide needed services to low-income and uninsured families. He is the founder and cochair of the Children’s Health Care Caucus, which works to educate and inform other members of Congress on children’s health-care issues and facilitates discussion on related legislation.
