Awards

Congressman Castle is dedicated to a number of issues that are important to Delawareans. Below is a list of awards that Congressman Castle has received since 2007:

Protecting the Environment

Congressman Castle received the Coastal Advocate Award from the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association for being a champion for Delaware's beaches and for America's coastal communities during his tenure in the House and as Governor.

Congressman Castle achieved a perfect score of 100 in the second annual Congressional scorecard by the Republicans for Environmental Protection (REP), a national grassroots organization.

The League of Conservation Voters gave Congressman Castle a 95% score for his legislative record on voting for a cleaner environment for the First Session of the 110th Congress.

Congressman Castle accepted the Outdoor Industry Association's 2010 Friend of the Outdoor Industry Award on April 21, 2010, for leading the effort to transform the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal into a recreational area for biking, hiking, fishing, and running.


Strengthening Education

Congressman Castle was awarded the 2007 Distinguished Service Award by the Council of Chief State School Offices (CCSSO's). The Distinguished Service Award is presented annually for outstanding service and dedication to American education.  Along with Congressman Castle, Cecil Piccard, who passed away last year and served as the Louisiana Chief, also received the 2007 award.

In June 2008, Congressman Castle was honored with the Lewis Huffman Civic Education Award by "We the People," a non-profit, non-partisan educational corporation dedicated to promoting an enlightened and responsible citizenry.  Rep. Castle is only the second person to receive this award, the first being Lewis Huffman for whom the award was named.

Congressman Castle was honored by the Association for Supervision & Curriculum Development (ASCD) with the ASCD Whole Child Leadership Award in recognition of his leadership on behalf of students.

On May 26, 2010, the National Center for Learning Disabilities honored Congressman Castle with the 2010 Distinguished Advocacy Award for his personal and professional contributions to children and adults with learning disabilities.

On June 14, 2010, Congressman Castle received the 2010 Outstanding Public Service Award from the Council for Exceptional Children for his work on behalf of children and youth with disabilities.


Improving Healthcare

Congressman Castle was awarded the American Cancer Society's National Distinguished Advocacy Award for 2007.  This award is the highest national advocacy honor bestowed by the Society and is in recognition of the Congressman's ability to bridge the partisan divide in pursuit of the fight against cancer. 

Congressman Castle received the American Society for Cell Biology Public Service Award in 2007 for his outstanding national leadership in support of biomedical research.

Congressman Castle received the American Society of Hematology Award for Public Service and continued attention to medical research in the United States.

In 2007, The American Heart Association awarded Congressman Castle with the Public Service Award for his support and leadership on many legislative initiatives aimed at reducing death and disability from heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.

Congressman Castle was the recipient of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America 2007 Public Policy Leadership Award for his support of the Crohn's disease community and his co-sponsorship of H.R. 1113, the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Research Enhancement Act.

2007 Morris K. Udall Award for Public Service by the Parkinson's Action Network (PAN) was presented to Congressman Castle in October 2007. Presented to those distinguished individuals who have made important contributions to public policy with the humor, grace, and dignity for which Mo Udall is remembered.

On February 26, 2008, Congressman Castle received the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) Award.

Congressman Castle was honored as a "Champion of Healthcare Innovation" for his leadership and strong support of policies and initiatives that improve our nation's healthcare system.  The award was presented to Rep. Castle on September 16, 2009 by the members of the Healthcare Leadership Council - premier companies and organizations from all sectors of American healthcare.

In April 2010, Congressman Castle accepted the the Delaware Bioscience Association's 2010 Government Official Award for his support and advocacy of Delaware bioscience research and commercialization, and his outstanding contributions toward building and strengthening Delaware's bioscience community.

On Thursday, September 23rd, 2010, the Prevent Cancer Foundation presented Rep. Castle a special recognition award to express the gratitude of the cancer community and Congressional community for his consistently oustanding work in cancer prevention and research.


Protecting Animals

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF) honored Congressman Castle with the "Humane Advocate Award" for his advocacy on animal welfare issues considered by the Congress in 2007 and for receiving a perfect score on the annual Humane scorecard.


Strengthening American business and the economy

Congressman Castle was honored with the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence for his voting record in the 109th Congress.

Congressman Castle received the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Spirit of Enterprise Award in April 2007 for his strong voting record on critical business issues in the Second Session of the 109th Congress.

The Small Business Council of America recognized Congressman Castle as one of four members of Congress to receive the council’s Congressional Advocacy Award in May 2009. The council is a national organization, administered in Delaware, that represents the interests of private and family owned business.

Congressman Castle received the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Spirit of Enterprise Award in April 2010 for his strong voting record on critical business issues in the First Session of the 111th Congress.

On June 23, 2010, Congressman Castle was recognized by the International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA) with a 2010 Thomas Jefferson Award, honoring his work to strengthen our nation’s free enterprise system and support economic prosperity.


Miscellaneous

Congressman Castle received the Whitney M. Young Jr. Award from the Wilmington Urban League in April 2008.  Young is the former president and CEO of the National Urban League and the award honors outstanding contributions and leadership in business, industry, and government.

Congressman Castle proudly accepted the Ben Franklin Award from the 60 Plus Association in July 2009. The 60 Plus organization chose to honor Castle for his dedication to protecting the interests of seniors through lowering taxes and reducing the size of the federal government.

On April 21, 2010, Congressman Castle's website was awarded a Bronze Mouse Award by the Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) for his website in the 111th Congress.  The Bronze Mouse Award is given to members whose website demonstrates effective use of the web and online resources.

On May, 26, 2010, Congressman Castle received the 2010 Highway Safety Leader Award from the Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety for his work to provide safer roadway environments and improve teen driver safety.
