Price Statement on Ghailani Verdict

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after a jury acquitted African embassy bomber Ahmed Ghailani on 284 of the 285 charges brought against him, including 224 counts of murder. Ghailani was found guilty on only one count of conspiracy to destroy government buildings.

“This was a test case in the Obama administration’s efforts to treat foreign terrorism like a routine issue of law enforcement, and Attorney General Eric Holder clearly failed the test,” said Congressman Price. “This is a gross miscarriage of justice for the 224 people murdered in the two embassy bombings and for their families. If this verdict does not teach the President the folly of his attempt to try foreign terrorists in U.S. civilian courts, he will never learn.

“There are serious doubts as to whether Attorney General Holder should continue to serve as the United States’ top law enforcement official. It is time for President Obama to admit his mistakes, work with Republicans to devise a sensible detainee policy, and resume the military commissions that he halted nearly two years ago.”
