Another TARP Not the Solution for Small Businesses

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 5297, a $33 billion mini-TARP. This legislation would allow the Obama administration to pump money into financial institutions under the guise of helping small businesses.

“Another TARP will not solve rampant unemployment,” said Congressman Price. “These endless bailouts are part of the problem. The Democrats’ plans to tax, control, and indebt our economy have small businesses running for cover. We need to focus on the concerns of the people who actually create jobs. Another bailout slush fund will simply further the politicization of our economy.

“When it comes to generating job growth, Washington knows a lot less than the private sector. Uncertainty, tax hikes, massive deficits, and government mandates make entrepreneurs and small business owners much less likely to create new jobs. Washington can best help small businesses by creating a job-friendly environment and providing clarity about the future. Bailouts are not the answer.”
