Sullivan Slams Democrat Leadership For Punting on Tax Relief
Washington,
Sep 29 -
Today, Congressman John Sullivan issued the following statement slamming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat leadership for planning to leave town without allowing an up or down vote on tax relief for all Americans. Unless Congress takes action to extend current tax rates before the end of the year, American families and businesses will be subject to a $3.9 trillion tax increase – the largest in our nation’s history – on January 1, 2011.
“Speaker Pelosi brought over 80 bills up for debate on the House floor this week – she found time to name post offices and federal buildings, to honor lacrosse teams and even to celebrate the history of the Hoover dam – yet the Democrat leadership can’t find time to stop the largest tax increase in history from hitting American families and businesses? That’s just absurd and the American people should be furious about it.
We have a stagnate economy and a national unemployment rate at 10%, - this is the worst possible time for tax increases. I talk to Oklahomans everyday who are scared to death about what the Democrat tax increase means for them– families can’t plan for the future and business owners can’t grow and create jobs with the prospect of the largest tax increase in American history hanging over their heads. Our economic recovery depends on providing continued tax relief to all Americans, yet Democrats chose to hit the campaign trail instead.”
