Visiting Washington, D.C.

Photo of the Capitol Visiting Washington, D.C. can be an exciting and educational experience. As a courtesy to constituents, Congressman Skelton's Washington office can inquire about availability of tours for constituents for the U.S. Capitol and the White House. Most tour requests should be submitted several months in advance. Congressman Skelton cannot guarantee availability of any tours. To make your request, complete and submit a Tour Request Form or contact Congressman Skelton's Washington office.


The U.S. Capitol

Location and Hours
The Capitol Visitor Center, the new main entrance to the U.S. Capitol, is located below the East Plaza of the Capitol between Constitution and Independence Avenues.

The Visitors Center is open to the public from 8:30-4:30, Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Inauguration Day.

Guided Tours of the Capitol
Advance Passes: Tours may be booked in advance online by visiting the Capitol Visitor Center's website, by submitting a Tour Request Form, or by calling Congressman Skelton's Washington office.

Same Day Passes: A limited number of same day passes are available at the tour kiosks on the East and West Fronts of the Capitol or at the Congressional Visitors Center.

Watching Congress in Session
Passes are required to enter the House and Senate galleries. Visitors may obtain gallery passes by contacting Congressman Skelton's Washington office.

The White House

Due to increased security procedures enacted since September 11, 2001, White House tours are extremely limited. Tour requests should be made up to six months in advance and requests are considered on a first come, first serve basis. Please note, the White House does not inform Congressional offices about the status of tour requests until two or three weeks prior to the requested tour date. To inquire about availability of tours for the White House, please complete and submit a Tour Request Form.
