CBO Score Hides the Big Picture

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after the CBO released its preliminary analysis of the Democrats’ health care reconciliation package.

“Democrats are crowing about a CBO score that really hides the big picture,” said Congressman Price. “It clearly demonstrates that Democrats can’t even pretend to be fiscally responsible without relying on budgetary sleight of hand and job-killing tax hikes. The CBO numbers rest on a plan that taxes Americans for ten years to cover a six-year spending binge of nearly $1 trillion. Such a maneuver masks the true cost of the first decade of full implementation. Meanwhile, Democrat leaders say this news makes them ‘giddy.’ That’s asinine.”

“The reconciliation bill is merely a sideshow to the main event, and House Democrats are hallucinating if they think it has any chance of getting through the Senate unchanged. Anyone who votes for the Senate bill is voting for taxpayer funded abortions, special deals for states like Nebraska and Louisiana, job-killing tax increases, and an unconstitutional individual mandate. There’s nowhere to hide from a vote like that, especially not behind a cost estimate that most Americans just don’t believe.”
