Video: Dave Reichert on Preserving Our Environment

"Millions of Americans enjoy the outdoors and want to take care of it - I'm one of them. We can continue the proud Washington State tradition of protecting public lands for future generations by working together." - Dave Reichert

Growing up in Washington, Dave has been surrounded by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and has developed a keen appreciation for it.

Dave believes our natural treasures must be protected in order that our grandchildren may enjoy them as well. One of the fundamental challenges to the preservation of our natural heritage and biodiversity is the mounting effects of climate change.

Dave is committed to working in a bipartisan fashion with his colleagues in the House of Representatives to find viable solutions based on sound scientific practices that reach a balance between protecting our precious natural resources and providing economic growth in our nation.

In the 110th Congress, Dave continues to fight for environmental issues through:

·         Advocating for real and immediate action to tackle climate change by supporting a cap and trade system with domestic and international offsets to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 70% below 1990 levels by 2050.

·         Introducing legislation that would add 22,000 acres of wilderness to the existing Alpine Lakes Wilderness and designate the Pratt River as a Wild and Scenic River.

·         Working to set the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge aside as an actual refuge and wilderness area as it was intended, not as a station for the extraction of oil to the degradation of it’s inhabitants natural ecosystems.

His environmental accomplishments include:

·         Supported over $2.5 billion in funding for our National Parks.

·         Called for increased funding for the restoration of Puget Sound and surround estuaries, rivers and marine habitats.

·         Made important contributions to systematic and cumulative efforts to improve the quality of endangered salmon habitats, increase knowledge about salmon and steelhead life cycles and requirements, and prioritized conservation and recovery activities.
