Washington, Nov 5, 2010 -

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Assistant to the Speaker, issued the following statement on the October jobs report from the Department of Labor:

“Today’s jobs report brings encouraging news for our economy.  With small businesses leading the way, 151,000 net jobs were created in October and 1.1 million private sector jobs have been created so far in 2010.  This marks our tenth straight month of private sector job creation.  As we work to rebuild after the worst economic crisis of our generation, this is important progress – but we must do more.  There is no question that the unemployment rate is too high.   For the millions of families who are struggling to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads, for people who lost their jobs through no fault of their own, and for the small businesses that are fighting to survive, we must do more.

“The President and Congress have been working together to bring our economy back from the brink, and this news confirms that we have moved the country forward and we have started to stabilize.  Now it’s time for Republicans to bring their ideas for job creation to the table, and Democrats will work to find common ground so we can continue to help put Americans back to work.”
