Rep. Susan Davis Announces $6 Million Dollar Grant to Help San Diego’s At-Risk Youth

San Diego – Congresswoman Susan Davis was joined by San Diego Youth Services and the San Diego County Probation Department to announce a $6 million federal grant to reduce pregnancy and incidents of sexually transmitted diseases among San Diego teenagers.

“During these tough times, at-risk youth are the ones in our society who are the most in danger of being left behind,” said Davis.  “This federal grant will help us provide support for these young people and make sure they have a network of resources. These prevention programs have a proven track record of keeping children on course for a strong and bright future.”

In San Diego County, 36 communities have teen pregnancy rates higher than the state average. One of these communities is Barrio Logan, which is in Davis’s congressional district.

In an effort to reach out to 10,000 youths, San Diego Youth services will partner with local groups, including Social Advocates for Youth’ San Diego Inc.; South Bay Community Services; Mental Health Systems, Inc.; North County Lifeline (NCLL).
