Internships

I accept undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates, to serve as interns in both my Washington, DC and Los Angeles, CA offices during the fall and spring semesters as well as during the summer.

Interns have an opportunity to learn about the federal government -- especially the legislative process -- by conducting research, attending congressional hearings or district events, interacting with constituents, and assisting me and my staff. Specific responsibilities and assignments vary according to the interests and abilities of interns but typically include a mix of substantive research, writing and administrative work.

Students interested in serving as interns should be in good academic standing, have an interest in public policy, and a desire to improve the lives of the American people. Residents of California’s 35th Congressional District receive priority consideration; however, in recent years outstanding applicants from elsewhere have also been accepted. Internships are unpaid but can be certified for school credit.

Applicants are encouraged to apply as follows:

  • Fall Internship: Apply by July 15th
  • Spring Internship: Apply by November 15th
  • Summer Internship: Apply by April 15th

Please download and fill out the application and send it to the office in which you would like to intern, listed below, along with:

  • A cover letter
  • Your Resume
  • Your Unofficial Transcript
  • One Letter of Recommendation from a professor, an academic advisor, or a work supervisor

Thank you for your interest in interning with my office!
