(WASHINGTON, D.C.)----For the 13th consecutive Congress, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has awarded U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC) with its prestigious NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award.  At a ceremony on Capitol Hill, Congressman Coble was honored by the head of the NFIB for his “strong small business voting record.”

Dan Danner, NFIB President and CEO, said, “In the 111th Congress, Representative Howard Coble proved that he is a champion of small business.  The Guardian of Small Business Award is a token of the deep appreciation that small business owners have for elected officials who promote and protect their right to own, operate and grow their businesses.”

Rep. Coble, who has won 13 consecutive awards, says the honor never gets old.  “Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy,” the 6th District Republican noted.  “To say that I am a champion of small business means a great deal to me because I am proud of my voting record of promoting small business.  I am grateful to the NFIB for recognizing my strong support for those who own and operate small enterprises.”

NFIB named eight representatives from North Carolina as Guardians of Small Business for their outstanding voting record on behalf of America’s small business owners in the 111th Congress.  President Danner praised North Carolina’s representatives for “standing up for small business.” Danner added, “Small business owners are also known to show their gratitude or disappointment at the ballot box. This November, NFIB members will know that these members of Congress are true small business champions.”

In addition to Howard Coble, the NFIB Guardian Award winners from North Carolina were Reps. Walter Jones, Virginia Foxx, Mike McIntyre, Larry Kissell, Sue Myrick, Patrick McHenry, and Heath Shuler. In all, NFIB presented Guardian awards to 202 representatives who voted favorably on key small business issues at least 70 percent of the time during the 111th Congress.
