Supporting Traditional Marriage


Congressman Forbes cosponsored (H.Res.1607) disapproving of Chief United States District Judge Walker’s decision to strike down California’s Proposition 8 and hereby redefine traditional marriage.


 
Preventing Corruption in Government Contracts

Congressman Forbes supported the Overseas Contractor Reform Act (H.R.5366), which prohibits corrupt individuals from receiving government contracts. Any individual found to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act would be barred from receiving any government contracts or grants under the legislation.
This bill passed the House by a vote of 409 – 0.


 
Creating Job Opportunities for Veterans

Congressman Forbes supported (H.R.5282), which encourages the Army Corps of Engineers to hire veterans and members of the Armed Forces to assist the Corps with curation and historic preservation activities.
This bill passed by a voice vote.
Economy

Supported American manufacturing.  Congressman Forbes supported requiring that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) (H.R.3116) give preference to items used by DHS that are produced, grown or manufactured in the U.S., including textiles. In addition, Congressman Forbes supported the Congressional Made in America Promise Act (H.R.2039), which extends the provisions of the Made in America Act to the Legislative branch.  The legislation requires Congressional offices to purchase products made in America whenever practical.
Both bills passed the House by voice vote.

Government Reform

Reduced time and costs in government emergency preparedness. Congressman Forbes voted for the Federal Supply Schedules Usage Act (S.2868) to allow the American Red Cross and state and local governments access to the federal supply schedule to facilitate disaster response planning. Using the federal supply schedule reduces the time and costs in the procurement process.
This bill passed the House by a voice vote.

Opposing duplicative government spending. Congressman Forbes opposed the Rural Energy Savings Program Act (H.R.4785), duplicative legislation that would increase federal spending by $800 million over the next five years, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
This bill passed by a vote of 240 – 172.

Homeland Security

Provided new anti-terrorism resources to first responders.  Congressman Forbes supported the First Responder Anti-Terrorism Training Resources Act (H.R.3978) to allow the Department of Homeland Security to accept non-monetary gifts to support anti-terrorism training for first responders.
This bill passed the House by voice vote.

Healthcare

Supported breast and ovarian cancer recognition. Congressman Forbes supported a resolution designating the last week of September as National Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Week and the last Wednesday of September as National Previvor Day (H.Res.1522).
This resolution passed the House by a vote of 408-0.

Immigration

Extended the privilege to naturalize new citizens.  Congressman Forbes supported a measure (H.R.4862), which would amend the Immigration and Naturalization Act to grant Members of Congress the authority to administer the oath of renunciation and allegiance of United States citizenship to individuals who have met citizenship eligibility requirements.
This bill passed the House by voice vote.

Defense

Supported Pentagon efficiencies.  Congressman Forbes supported (H.R.6102) that amends the National Defense Authorization Act of 2010 extending authority of the Secretary of the Navy to purchase F/A-18E, F/A-18F, and EA-18G aircraft using multi-year contracts, which would save taxpayers $600 million.
The bill passed the House by a voice vote.

Honored those lost on September 11th. Congressman Forbes joined members of Congress to unanimously express their deepest sympathies to the families of those who lost loved ones in the terrorist attacks on September 11th (H.Res.1610).
This resolution passed by a voice vote. 

Honored D-Day troops. Congressman Forbes supported (H.Res.1251) to recognize and honor United States troops who gave their lives on D-Day at the Battle of Normandy.
This resolution passed the House by a voice vote.

Judiciary

Recognizing the anniversary of women’s suffrage.  Congressman Forbes supported (H.Res.1375) honoring the ratification of the 19th Amendment and recognizing contributions made to American politics by women.
This resolution passed by the House by voice vote. 

Recognizing the U.S. Constitution. Congressman Forbes cosponsored a resolution (H.Res.1612) in support of honoring September 17th, 2010 as Constitution Day.
The resolution passed the House by voice vote.

Transportation and Infrastructure

Supported recreational aviation.  Congressman Forbes supported H.Res.1473 recognizing the value of recreational aviation and backcountry airstrips, and commending aviators and the various private organizations that maintain airstrips for public use.
This resolution passed by voice vote.

International Relations

Expressed condolences to the families and victims of flooding in Pakistan.  Congressman Forbes supported a resolution (H.Res.1613) mourning the significant loss of life, as well as physical damage, caused by this natural disaster in Pakistan.
This resolution passed by a vote of 396-2.
