Rolling Thunder - Remembering Our POW/MIA Veterans

This Memorial Day weekend, I had the privilege of riding at the head of the Rolling Thunder Ride for Freedom in Washington, DC on behalf of our POW/MIA veterans. Over half a million veterans and supporters came out to show their commitment to these men and women.

I hope you'll take a few minutes to watch the following video that shows some highlights of the ride and the ceremony that followed at the Lincoln Memorial.

Boating Safety: Life Jackets

The National Safe Boating Council is reminding folks as a part of National Safe Boating Week and throughout the summer season to wear lifejackets. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, lifejackets can prevent over 80 percent of boating fatalities. If you or your loved ones plan to be out on the boat this weekend, make sure your gear is in top shape by following these guidelines from the Coast Guard:
  • Buy your own life jacket and wear it. One size does not fit all.
  • Look at the label for size and weight limitations.
  • Try it on and check the fit. With straps and buckles secured, the life jacket should not slip over your head or cover your eyes.
  • Make sure the life jacket is Coast Guard approved.
  • Replace your life jacket if you find air leakage, mildew or rot.
  • Never alter a life jacket. It could lose its effectiveness.
  • Check your life jackets yearly for floatation and fit.
  • Wear a life jacket to set an example for younger children while increasing your chances of survival.
  • Take a safe boating course.
