Wilmington | September 28, 2010 - Today, Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at 11:30 a.m., Delaware Congressman Mike Castle, Senior Republican of the House Education and Labor's Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education, will join Education Secretary Arne Duncan, Committee Chairman George Miller, and other elected officials in hearing from teachers, parents, and principals at NBC's National Education Summit about the current status of education in America and ideas for reforming our nation's education system. The panel, "Taking Our Ideas to the Policymakers," will be moderated by Brian Williams and can be viewed live on MSNBC or on Education Nation's website.

"I am pleased to participate in today's panel, 'Taking Our Ideas to the Policymakers,' as part of NBC's National Education Summit," said Rep. Castle. "This is an important opportunity to bring together policymakers and practitioners for an honest discussion about what's working and not working in our nation's classrooms and how all Americans play a role in improving our education system.

"A bipartisan group in Congress has been working to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act in effort to change our education system for the better.  While reforming our country's K-12 education system will be an arduous task, the future economic viability of our nation is dependent on every student accessing a top-notch education."

NBC's National Education Summit will take place Today, Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  The panel discussion will include statements from each of the participants, as well as a question and answer period. The summit will be moderated by NBC Nightly News Host Brian Williams and broadcast live on MSNBC or on Education Nation's website.
