Democrats Should Put the Lame Duck to Rest

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement in response to reports that the Democrat majority plans to cram as many as 20 pieces of major legislation into a post-election lame duck session. This comes as they prepare to adjourn, leaving a wake of failed policies that has fostered uncertainty in our economy – most notably a failure to stop a massive tax increase on American families and small businesses.

“There is clearly a concerted effort by the Democrat majority to get done whatever they can in a lame duck session,” said Congressman Price. “This just shows how far the Democrat leadership will go to get their radical agenda passed – even if it means blatantly thwarting the will of the American people. It is the height of irresponsibility that Democrats have continued to punt the issue of tax hikes down the road and into a potential lame duck session. But, lest we forget, also on the docket could be a national energy tax and increased deficit spending that will drive our nation further into debt and penalize future generations.

“For nearly two years, Democrats have failed to address the most dire concern of the American people: jobs. They have recklessly pursued – against the will of the American people – one big government, liberal agenda item after another. We faced an economic crisis that demanded immediate action, and instead the Democrat leadership passed a trillion dollar bill full of special interest handouts that have proven to be anything but economically stimulating. They rammed through a government takeover of health care and put in place a permanent bailout mentality. But, having pursued this disastrous agenda, they still believe it is appropriate to use a lame duck session of Congress to get done what they could not or would not do beforehand. Simply put, that is an abject failure of leadership.”
