Results of 2009 Congressional Art Competition
 
Lake Jackson, TX - The judging for the 2009 Congressional Art Competition: An Artistic Discovery took place yesterday.  There were 142 entries submitted this year from high school students throughout the 14th district.  These schools include: Alvin, Angleton, Bay City, Boling, Edna, Ganado, and O’Connell College Prep.
 
This is the 28th Anniversary of the Congressional Art Competition.  The winning piece of art work from each congressional district will be displayed in the Capitol Building Tunnel in Washington DC for an entire year.  The winning student receives 3 round trip plane tickets to attend the ribbon cutting/opening ceremonies of the art exhibit in DC, and also the opportunity for a $1,500 per year admission scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design.
 
This year’s winner is Angleton High School junior Jessica Adame.  The medium she used is pastels and the piece is titled “American Indian Boy.” 
 
The judges for this year’s competition were, Gary Crabtree, Director of Texas Operations for the SI Group; Lillie Alcala, Past President and member of the Brazosport Art League; Mary Bates Sechrest, member of the Brazosport Art League; and Lil Anna Klein, member of the Brazosport Art League. 
 
This year was another successful year for the Congressional Art Competition.  The congressman and staff wish to thank those who assisted.
