Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that he was successful in securing a grant for the Farm Resource Center, located in Mound City, in the fiscal year 2006 Agriculture Appropriations bill. The Farm Resource Center provides mental health services across Southern Illinois. The grant will allow the Farm Resource Center to apply for designated funds from the Office of Rural Development of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
"These are important services that particularly help people during down times, such as after losing a job, experiencing a death in the family or a major illness," Costello said. "As a member of the steering committee of the Rural Health Care Coalition, I have made increasing access to health care, including mental health care, in rural areas a top priority. Depression and other conditions often go undiagnosed, and people need to know that there are ways to get help."
