Quote of the Day

"The U.S. economy expanded at a faster clip than initially forecast in the third quarter, helped by more robust consumer spending and by stronger exports. The economy grew at a 2.5% annualized pace in the quarter, revised up from the initial estimate of 2.0%, the government said in its second estimate of quarterly gross domestic product. GDP growth was 1.7% during the second quarter.”

HOUSE APPROVES LOCAL WATER PROJECTS

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the House of Representatives has approved funding for water projects in the 12th Congressional District as part of the Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2006.  The legislation will next be considered by the Senate.

"These projects will help protect our communities while restoring habitats and improving our infrastructure," said Costello.  "This is critical work for the economy of our region and I will work to ensure that this funding stays in the final version of the bill."

The projects include:

  • $1.189 million for operation and maintenance of the Kaskaskia Navigation System.
  • $1 million for new sewer and storm water drain construction in St. Clair and Madison Counties.
  • $590,000 for construction and $185,000 for general investigation at the Wood River Levee, Madison County.
