Chester, IL - A Chester veteran was honored by receiving his military medals on Thursday, March 24, 2005 by U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello, (D-IL). Congressman Costello presented the medals to Earl Smith at a ceremony held in the Congressman Costello's Chester District Office at the Chester City Hall.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific theater. He also served in the U.S. Army Active Reserves.
Among the medals that were awarded to Mr. Smith are; the Good Conduct medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal and Bronze Star attachment, the WW II Victory medal, the Army of Occupation medal and Japan clasp, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Bronze Star attachment, the Honorable Service Lapel pin and the Sharpshooter Badge and Rifle bar. Mr. Smith contacted Congressman Costello's office asking for assistance in securing his medals.
