Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that; the Morrison-Talbot library in Waterloo, Illinois, the Wyvetter Younge Middle School Library in East St. Louis and the Sallie Logan Public Library in Murphysboro have received We the People Bookshelf awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Each of these libraries will receive 15 classic books and supporting materials relating to this year's theme of "freedom."
The libraries will organize programs that highlight the theme and encourage their young readers to explore these important works of literature.
"This program helps children develop good reading skills and an appreciation of history and literature, which will make them better students," said Costello. "Libraries do a great job of making learning fun, and these additional resources will help in that effort."
