Mounds, IL - On Saturday, June 18, 2005, U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) participated in a ribbon cutting for the Pulaski County Business Center Project and presented a mock grant check to officials with the Pulaski County Senior Center in Mounds, Illinois.
Costello, along with state and local officials, made remarks at the ribbon cutting and opening of the Business Center and also presented a grant check in the amount of $50,000 representing funds received from the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development Program to repair and renovate the SMILES Senior Nutrition Center located in Mounds, Illinois.
The Pulaski County Business Center, funded by a combination of federal, state and local funds, will be used to assist local area businesses to build and develop their operations and will also house the administrative offices for the Southern Illinois Delta Empowerment Zone and the Small Business Development Center for the area. The SMILES Senior Center serves 160 people per day through their nutrition program (this includes congregate and delivered meals). They also provide outreach assistance and referrals for seniors. The $50,000 grant was received for building/site improvements, including a new floor, roof, HVAC, updating plumbing and electrical, and kitchen repairs.
