Belleville, IL - Andrew Singer, a sophomore at Gibault High School in Waterloo, was in Washington D.C. today participating in the national ceremonies recognizing the winners of each of the Congressional Artistic Discovery events held throughout the United States this year.
Locally, Congressman Costello's Artistic Discovery Competition was held on May 15, 2005 in conjunction with Belleville's Annual Art on the Square event. Over 150 high school students participated in Congressman Costello's competition. Andrew, his parents, Mary and Gary, with brother Brandon, visited with Congressman Costello in his Washington D.C. office after participating in recognition events at the Capitol.
Andrew's first place winning art work will hang in the Cannon Tunnel of the US Capitol for one year. He also received a $3000 Art Scholarship from the Savannah School of Art and Design and a $200 Savings Bond donated by Westpointe Bank of Belleville.
