Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) today sent a letter to President Bush urging him to expedite Governor Blagojevich's request that all 102 counties in Illinois be declared a federal disaster area due to extreme drought conditions. The declaration would allow farmers to apply for U.S. Department of Agriculture emergency loans.
"We continue to have a very dry and hot growing season and the impacts are being felt already," said Costello. "The faster this declaration is approved, the faster our farmers can get the assistance they need."
