Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that both the Mascoutah Rural Fire Protection District and the Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department have received Assistance to Firefighters grants through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The Mascoutah Rural Fire District received $67,500 in grant funds while the Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department received $44,535. Both grants will be used for fire operations and firefighter safety. Congressman Costello cosponsored the legislation that created the Assistance to Firefighters program.
"Improving the equipment and providing resources for our local fire departments is one of the most important things we can do to enhance public safety," said Costello. "Our first responders put their lives on the line everyday, and their dedication deserves our full support."
