Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) issued the following statement regarding being named to the Congressional delegation traveling to Rome for the funeral of Pope John Paul II:
"It is an honor to be selected to represent the nation as well as the people of Southwestern and Southern Illinois at the funeral of Pope John Paul II. He was such an important figure, touching the lives of millions and leaving a legacy that will endure for generations. My wife Georgia and I will always cherish the memories of our visit with him during his trip to St. Louis in 1999. I look forward to the opportunity to pay my respects in person and to let others know what the Pope meant to the people of the United States and our region."
