TAKE THE TOURDriving into the Future with a Fleet of Hybrid Vehicles
In an effort to reduce its environmental footprint, the House has begun transitioning to a low-emissions vehicle fleet.
The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) recently purchased a hybrid, electric-diesel Peterbilt truck.
"It uses electricity as long as the speed is less than 25 miles per hour, then it uses diesel," Jerry Bennett, assistant CAO for Assets, Furnishings and Logistics, said. "We’re going to use it to move furniture, supplies and equipment around campus."
The first hybrid vehicle the department bought was small, which was manufactured by GEM Car. But it has limitations. It can only move small items and can't go very far.
For Bennett, the next step was obvious, get a bigger vehicle that is not only fuel efficient, but can travel farther.
