Senator Grassley holds a meeting in every Iowa county, every year. He visits schools and businesses, attends special events, and holds town-hall meetings to keep in touch with Iowans. He also meets regularly with student groups and tourists from Iowa when they’re in Washington, D.C. 2009 Ambassadors Tour

In August of 2009, Senator Grassley hosted foreign diplomats from around the world on a week-long tour of Iowa as part of his 12th Ambassadors Tour. The purpose of the tour is three-fold. One, the tour showcases Iowa’s many resources-its land, its industry, its education system and most importantly its people-to an international audience.  Two, the tour helps facilitate greater economic collaboration between Iowa and countries from around the world. And, three, the tour exposes Iowa to the rich diversity of the world community.

 
Grassley roots on ethanol, IoWINS

Senator Grassley made it a point to root on his Senate softball team, the IoWINS, against the Grocery Manufacturers Association after the GMA engineered and intellectually dishonest anti-ethanol campaign in 2008. The IoWINS won the game 18-4.

 
Student Visits

Since he was first elected to the Senate, Senator Grassley has made it a priority to meet with students visiting Washington, DC to learn about the inner workings of our government. He meets with more than 60 student groups each year.

 
Meeting Supreme Court Nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor

In his capacity as a senior member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Grassley met with Judge Sonia Sotomayor shortly after President Obama nominated her to serve on the Supreme Court.

 
Lunch with President Obama at the White House

In April 2009, Senator Grassley ate lunch at the White House with President Obama, Vice President Biden and Senator Baucus to discuss health care reform.

 
Iowa Community Visits

Each Spring, Senator Grassley welcomes delegations of community and business leaders from cities across Iowa as they travel to Washington to discuss their legislative priorities for the upcoming year.

Press Conferences

In order to communicate with his constituents back home, Senator Grassley holds five weekly news conferences with Iowa media. He also appears on state and national television programs and participates in press conferences around the Capitol.

 
Every County, Every Year

Since he was first elected to the Senate, Senator Grassley has practiced the tradition of visiting all of Iowa's 99 counties, every year.
