U.S. Congressman Fred Upton

I am a senior member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.  The Energy and Commerce Committee has one of the broadest jurisdictions of any congressional committee, with principal responsibility over matters relating to health care, energy, consumer safety, telecommunications, and trade.

Subcommittee on Energy and Environment

I am the ranking member, or top Republican, of the powerful House Subcommittee on Energy and Environment, a critical position as the nation seeks to fortify its energy supply and reduce its dependence on foreign oil.  I strongly support an “all of the above” energy strategy, with a greater emphasis on domestic exploration, the advancement of breakthrough clean coal technologies as well as renewable sources of energy like wind and solar, the promotion of emissions-free nuclear power, and increased conservation through advanced technologies.

Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet

I am a senior member and former chairman (2001-2006) of the House Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet.  I helped oversee the successful digital television (DTV) transition, which was one of the 9-11 Commission’s top recommendations.  I also fought for decency in broadcasting and to keep our children safe from online predators.  I have been a leading voice in keeping the Internet free from government regulation and taxation.
