Slaughter Announces $93,991 in Federal Grants for Monroe Housing Foundations Funding Will Support Housing Counseling Services to Promote Home Ownership
Washington, DC - Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (D-Fairport), Ranking Member of the House Rules Committee, is pleased to announce that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded the Bishop Sheen Ecumenical Housing Foundation and the Housing Council in Monroe County Inc. a combined $93,991. The funds will support the work of these organizations, which seek to provide safe, decent, affordable housing to low- to moderate-income families, seniors, and persons with disabilities.
"We can't overestimate the security, strength, and dignity individuals and families derive from a quality house they can call their home," Rep. Slaughter said. "Organizations like Bishop Sheen and the Housing Council know that this is the stable base from which men, women, and children can build successful lives together," she added. "Their work is vital to the health and well-being of our community."
HUD's Housing Counseling Program supports the delivery of a wide variety of housing counseling services to homebuyers, homeowners, low- to moderate-income renters, and the homeless. The program seeks to expand homeownership opportunities and improve access to affordable housing.
