Dutch, KaDee Strickland Discuss Backlog of Rape Cases

I met with actress KaDee Strickland on Thursday to discuss the national backlog of untested forensic evidence from sexual assault and rape cases. You know KaDee from the ABC series Private Practice, in which her character, Charlotte King, was recently sexually assaulted. KaDee’s research for the role led her to RAINN, the Rape Abuse & Incest National Network, which is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. They helped her get ready to play her part accurately and sensitively.

I’ve helped secure much-needed federal dollars for RAINN’s sex abuse hotline in the past. The funding helped RAINN launch the country’s first secure web-based hotline to provide live and confidential help to sex crime victims who may not be comfortable discussing their experience on the phone.

KaDee was very compassionate and knowledgeable about this important issue and I was thrilled to meet her in person. I agree that the current backlog of untested evidence from sex crimes is inexcusable. KaDee and I discussed legislation to create a national registry to track untested rape kits and give victims and the public up-to-date information. I support this idea.
