WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Sam Graves released the following statement on the untimely passing of former Missouri Congresswoman Karen McCarthy:

“It was with sadness that I learned this morning of the passing of Congresswoman Karen McCarthy.  She was a tireless advocate for the needs of her constituents in Kansas City, always making sure they received her full attention and the representation they deserved in the People’s House.  Despite the fact that we did not always see eye-to-eye on the issues, Karen and I had an excellent working relationship during our time together in Congress.  I always considered her a friend.

“Karen touched many people, both in her public and private lives.  I know she will be missed and remembered fondly by many.  I will keep her and her family in my prayers, and I extend my deepest condolences to them for their loss.”

Congresswoman McCarthy represented Missouri’s Fifth Congressional District from 1995 to 2005.  She was 63.
