About the Committee

Welcome from Chairman Thompson

Welcome to the website of the House Committee on Homeland Security. This website will provide you with a range of resources, including the Committee’s priorities, reports, news and other pertinent information throughout the year. The Committee's website will also serve as a portal for updates on our Membership, hearings, markups, and legislation.

Last Congress, we enacted the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission (P.L. 110-153), addressed the0 nation’s cyber threat, increased the participation of small and minority businesses in the DHS contracting process, and further strengthened our nation’s rail, port, and aviation security.

This Congress, we welcome several new Members to the Committee, each of whom will provide fresh, innovative ideas on how to strengthen the security of our nation. We will continue our work to secure the nation’s critical infrastructure, our borders and our ports. We will continue to improve the nation’s ability to prepare for and respond to any disasters we may encounter by ensuring that our first responders have the training, tools and guidance they need to do their jobs. In addition, with the first transition of the Department of Homeland Security in full swing, we must continue to ensure that each agency within the Department is running smoothly and efficiently. Improving the governance and accountability of the Department of Homeland Security is our main objective.

Thank you for your interest in the Committee and the work we do on your behalf.

Sincerely,

Chairman Bennie G. Thompson

Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS)
