The National Tax Limitation Committee (NTLC) has honored Congressman Tom Petri with its 111th Congress "Tax Fighter Award." NTLC President Lewis K. Uhler presented the award to Petri in Washington, D.C. saying, "Congressman Petri's votes on tax and spending issues in the 111th Congress earned him an 'A' grade and the Tax Fighter Award."
"Congressman Petri has led the battle on behalf of taxpayers to stop the passage of ObamaCare and cap-and-trade legislation, to make 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent, to eliminate the death tax, to kill the Alternative Minimum Tax, to provide incentives for private savings, investment and job creation and to control the growth of federal spending," Uhler said.
"What this award is about is those Members who really vote for the people and the taxpayers of America, and Congressman Tom Petri has done perfectly for America's taxpayers," he said
Petri responded, "There is a lot of pressure for spending, and people are coming to Congress or the state legislature or, for that matter, city councils and other elected bodies all the time asking for spending on worthy causes. It's our job to separate the wheat from the chaff. And frankly, if you are going to make a mistake, I'd rather make a mistake in favor of the taxpayer and leave the money in their pocket."
