STEARNS: “WHITE HOUSE DECISION ON OFFSHORE DEVELOPMENT MEANS GREATER ENERGY DEPENDENCE, FEWER JOBS, AND LESS ECONOMIC GROWTH”
OFFSHORE DEVELOPMENT IS IMPORTANT TO OUR NATIONAL AND ECONOMIC SECURITY

Washington, Dec 1 - “This nation needs to utilize all of its energy sources, including those offshore, in an environmentally safe manner to move us toward energy independence,” stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth), a senior member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee. “This decision by the White House means that we will become even more dependent on imported energy sources, including from unstable regions and from nations that do not share our commitment to freedom.”

Today, the Obama Administration reversed its March decision to authorize energy exploration off of the nation’s east coast from Delaware to central Florida and in the waters north of Alaska. The new plan only authorizes exploration in the Alaskan waters.

Added Stearns,” “Today’s decision by the Obama Administration sends a clear message to our nation’s oil and gas industry: take your capital, technology and jobs somewhere else. In light of our weak economy, we should be able to open up more of offshore America to development, while keeping any new drilling at least 125 miles away from the coast of Florida.”
