STEARNS NAMED “TAXPAYER HERO” BY THE COUNCIL FOR CITIZENS AGAINST GOVERNMENT WASTE
STEARNS HONORED FOR HIS RECORD ON CUTTING WASTEFUL SPENDING AND REDUCING THE TAX BURDEN

Washington, Oct 8, 2009 - The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) named Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth) a “Taxpayer Hero” for his record on fiscal responsibility. “Rep. Cliff Stearns can always be counted upon to put the interests of taxpayers ahead of politics. He consistently votes to cut wasteful spending, reduce the tax burden, and make government more accountable to taxpayers,” said CCAGW President Tom Schatz. Stearns earned a 92-percent rating, one of the highest in Congress. The CCAGW considered 48 votes cast in the House in 2008, among them support for extending expiring tax relief provisions, opposing the bailout of financial institutions, and support for developing more domestic energy resources. “The American people work hard for their money and Congress must spend their tax dollars wisely,” said Stearns. “I am committed to ending wasteful spending, reducing the burden of taxation on families and businesses, and making government programs more accountable. I am honored to once again be named a ‘Taxpayer Hero.’” The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste is the lobbying arm of Citizens Against Government Waste, the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government. ”
