Rep. Petri On the President's State of the Union Address
WASHINGTON – Based on briefings about tonight's upcoming State of the Union Address, Rep. Tom Petri has the following reaction:
"I think the President is right to talk about expanding job opportunities for working Americans, and to propose steps to help seniors, families and small businesses deal with the rising cost of health care, and I agree with his continuing emphasis on the importance of education.
"Of course, we all have our own set of goals, and I think we
recognize that reaching them involves a lot of trade-offs, and
that the devil's in the details. We'll be working on that in
Congress during this session. And I think, ultimately, when all
is said and done, the President is making it clear that his
priorities are the same as those of the rest of us - namely,
national security, jobs, health care and education."
