Town of Harrison Youth Serving in Congress
WASHINGTON -- Town of Harrison youth DJ Anderson began his service in Congress Sunday when he started a three-week stint as a congressional page. The incoming Appleton East High School senior explained that pages have numerous jobs, both on the floor of the House and off. "Yesterday I was a Floor Page, which means I had to take envelopes from the reading or journal clerks and bring them down to the legislative office," he said. "Today I was running flags to different congressmen who have them flown over the Capitol for their constituents." "There are other jobs, like I have to get the speeches from the congressmen when they're done giving them so that the clerk can copy them down and make sure that there's a record of what they said." Anderson heard about the House page program at his school, and applied for a position through his congressman, Rep. Tom Petri. |

"It's a great opportunity for young people who have the maturity to live away from home and to accept the responsibility of acting in the nation's capital," Petri said. |
