Petri Urges Disaster Victims to Contact FEMA

WASHINGTON -- Representative Tom Petri is urging the victims of Wisconsin's recent weather disasters to get in touch with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

"Federal and state assistance has been approved for those who suffered flooding losses in Columbia, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Jefferson, Kenosha, Ozaukee and Winnebago counties, and I am providing my full support to Governor Doyle as he seeks help for those most affected by Wednesday night's severe storms," Petri said.

"My District Director, Sue Kerkman-Jung, met with the Governor today in Waupun and reiterated my commitment to help," he said.

Assistance that may be available includes disaster grants to cover temporary housing assistance, low-interest loans to renters and homeowners to repair homes or replace personal property as well as to assist businesses, and replacement grants to help meet serious disaster-related needs and expenses not met by insurance or other programs.

Individuals seeking help must first call FEMA at 1-800-621- FEMA (3362). Those needing aid for damaged businesses can call or go directly to the four Disaster Recovery Centers which have been established to handle claims.

It is currently anticipated the Disaster Recovery Centers will be open for the next two weeks from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
